It's funny I was just talking to Matt Cruickshank in London about Sokol. He's an amazing painter.

While you were talking to Matt in London, I was talking to Auntie Remolacha down in Daule, she's a big Sokol fan as well, she said he painted in watercolor, I disagree, I think it's tempera, what do you think?

I think he used both. But I think your right, he used more guache. I love the way he spends time illustrating details on the backgrounds and of course on the ladies.

That is truly remarkable, it really demonstrates the man's brilliance, he has already nailed the funny gag, the message (in the case of his political work) is timely and clever, the caricatures are flawless, both in execution and likeness and on top of that he renders these luscious backgrounds, extremely detailed and complementary to the piece but never ornate or merely decorative, I mean..just mind boggling stuff.
