Michael Mathias Prechtl

German born artist, also among my most beloved and admired since my teenage years, I've kept the Orwell pic I clipped in '84 (part of a 1984 calendar appropriately used as the cover)

Michael Mathias Prechtl

The last two images come from the KUNSTHAUS Nürnberg's site.

My pleasure indeed, I wish I had more of his work, his stuff has a peculiar effect on me, kind of an uncomfortable yet pleasant feeling, like the time this gorgeous woman dentist was giving me a root canal. Don't quite know what it is but I like it.

Pretty, in the best sense of the word. (I should admit that I do most of my browsing surreptitiously at work, where your image hosts don't make it through the firewall, so my comments are based on what I can Google.)

I found that Prechtl had done, some time back, a picture of Alban Berg for Opera News. If you ever come across this image I'd like to see it. The original ish is a collector's item.

"uncomfortable yet pleasant..." There does seem to be a feeling of unease in his self-portraits.

Looks like some of his work (Prechtls Welttheater - Prechtl's World) is available from the German Amazon (Amazon.de).
